Since 1979 Sacred Heart Shelter (SHS) has provided safe, home-like shelter to homeless families and women. The shelter is located in the Lower Queen Anne area of Seattle and houses six single women and six families. A family can be a one or two parent family. We do accept single fathers with children.
Single women who stay at SHS share a dormitory-style room, and each family
who comes to the shelter receives their own room. The remainder of the house
is communal living space. This includes three bathrooms, laundry facilities
upstairs and a lounge. Downstairs we have a Quiet Room, dining room and kitchen.
Residents arrive with a variety of different issues and come from many different backgrounds. Because of this, the staff tries to see each household as unique and develop a tailor-made plan for the issues that each family faces.
Residents can stay at the shelter for up to ninety days. As they work on their goals, the staff serves to connect them with the services they need. Some may meet with the mental health counselor, nurse or healthcare advocate, who all come to the shelter once a week. Needs also range from clothing to childcare, all of which we are able to provide referrals. The needs are as varied as the people who come in the door.
